FLORA AND FAUNA CARE
PEST AND DISEASE CONTROL BASED ON ECOLOGICAL CRITERIA
In Frutinter, we have built our own insectarium in order to breed natural enemies of the Cotonet, the generalist pedrator Cryptolaemus montrouzieri and the parasitoid Anagyrus pseudococci. We have slowly increased the productivity and we have been preparing ourselves for our future and much wished collaboration with the Department of Agriculture (Consellería de Agricultura) for the distribution of the South Africa’s Cotonet parasitoid, Anagyrus pseudococci.
Releases of Amblyseius californicus and Aphytis melinus also take place in order to biologically fight the spider mites and the California red scale. This way, the auxiliary fauna of our plantations is increased, respecting the one already living in it.
CARE FOR WATER RESOURCES
USE OF RESOURCES. SMART METHODOLOGY
Currently, obvious advances in reducing the use of fertilisers such as nitrate have taken place, this has been given due to an exhaustive cycle control, getting an excellent harvest quantity and quality without taking away the tree vigor. In addition, thanks to irrigation cycles control, water loss has been reduced improving its use.
We have also created our Phytobac®. This system allows us to eliminate the chemical residues coming from cleaning the agricultural tools and spraying vehicles. This way, sewage does not reach the sewage system and there is no risk of soil or groundwater pollution. The particle degradation is microbiological and after ten years, the final substrate will be incorporated into the plantation.
NITRATE FOOTPRINT
Based on the application of SMART Agriculture on the plot, a soil vulnerability study is carried out with permeability tests to check the degree of contamination by nitrogenous substances.
Once the points where we are going to place the devices to measure the nitrate leachate have been determined, we place an inclined probe at a depth of 2.8 m. in the undisturbed area where at the end there is a filter pipe that collects the leachate water.
As this is an area of medium vulnerability, we take regular measurements and send samples to the laboratory.
The objective is to see what degree of contamination the leachate that percolates through the unsaturated zone has in terms of nitrogen compounds. If it has >50 ppm or mg/l of nitrate, this means that it has the possibility of reaching the saturated zone or aquifer, which is what ultimately contaminates.
The NITRATE FOOTPRINT CERTIFICATE scientifically accredits the non-contamination by nitrates in the underground aquifers of the controlled area. It guarantees the quality and safety of our clemenules, which have been grown in soil that is not saturated with fertilisers, free of residues and, above all, faithful to our values and company philosophy: AT FRUTINTER WE CARE for the health of people and the planet.
NO CHEMICAL TREATMENTS
After harvest, the washing of fruit is carried out with a minimum use of ozonized water and a low temperature drying. Peel coverings made of edible natural extracts are applied before preparation.
COMPOSTABLE, RECYCLABLE AND RETURNABLE PACKAGING
Our fruit is packed in different kinds of boxes, most of them are compostable, recyclable, returnable and sustainable.
We work with returnable packaging such as IFCO, EUROPOOL, LOGIFRUIT, etc. These are reused several times so that we avoid excessive and unnecessary packaging, as this only creates a residues and price increase. They ease and guarantee a more economic packaging and subsequent purchase, they contribute to recycling and they are another upcycling option.
We also have sustainable packaging for some of our preparations, so our choice is to show a greater respect for environment and therefore there is a reduction of our environmental impact. Sustainability is present when planting and giving life to new trees in order to regenerate forests. This way, production continues avoiding, as far as possible, environmental damage with countermark SUSTAINABLE FORESTRY.
Among our preparations, we also have nets or girsaks for fruit packaging. We are committed to the environment, so we use nets that contain a minimum quantity of plastic in order to reduce pollution both in the production of nets and in its degradation. It is the same for the bands used to complete the girsaks. We provide our clients with the option of using MONOMATERIAL bands and girsaks, which makes possible its subsequent recycling.
Most of our products packaging composition are recyclable, so you can deposit them in the corresponding container after use. This way, you will contribute to the recycling chain in order to respect the environment.
We are constantly improving and studying the least aggressive materials and the most ecological ones for the environment, without damaging the price for the consumer and supporting our planet’s health.
SOLAR ENERGY
Our warehouses are equipped with skylights on the roof, which allows us to use the natural light and its corresponding energy saving.
The solar panel system allows us to use solar energy for consumption in the facilities.
WATER RESOURCES
Besides reducing water consumption as much as possible in the production process, in order to take care of planet’s water resources, we recycle and treat all the sewage generated. This way, these are reused in the process with a total health guarantee. We have our own treatment system.
ECO-TRANSPORT
Frutinter is a majority shareholder of the transport company NUPPEC S.L., which has gas trucks in its fleet that reduce greenhouses gas emission, therefore they are less polluting. We control the cold chain and the loading time.
RESPONSIBLE DISTRIBUTION AND LOCAL PRODUCT
We optimize loading in our distribution platform in order to reduce the number of journeys and be environmentally responsible. Collection and dispatch of km0 products is available.
